Electricity generation by biomass
Forestalia was awarded 108.5 MW of electricity generation using biomass at the auction in January 2016. This amount is integrated in the total 300 MW of the company’s portfolio in this clean technology.
The most advanced project is Cubillos del Sil (El Bierzo, León), with the support of the Junta de Castilla y León. The installation will have a power of 49.9 MW.
The installation will consume exclusively wood chips and cereal straw from a radius of 150 km.
Biomass plants are CO2 neutral, which is essential to fight climate change. Forest clearing helps prevent forest fires. The complementary use of straw will help to avoid uncontrolled burning of stubble, which also causes emissions.
